Some great news. Stellenbosch Virgin Active starts selling memberships on Saturday 1 September! After what feels like a lifetime, we are finally able to show you some pics of the progress we’ve made in the last while and happily say that barring any unforseen circumstances, we will be opening the club in December 2012.
Here are some behind-the-scenes pics of the club as it is today. It doesn’t look like much now, but when it’s done, it’ll blow you away

I used to live in Bellville and trained at Tygervalley gym. But after moving to Stellenbosch I cancelled my VA membership because no way was I driving to Bellville to get to gym. The sad part is that I was told last year that Stellenbosch gym would open in Dec last year, and then in June and now in December this year. I truly hope the gym will open on schedule and that there will be a pool!!! (And how about the spa pool like at Claremont gym?)
Is there going to be a Climbing Wall? It will mean the difference of me joining or not.

Our clubs aren’t franchised but we are looking at sites in KZN for further expansion

So I would like to see the membership details before I join a different gym so can maybe just join the other gym for the rest of the year and then join virgin active next year when it opens!
Stellenbosch will cost R379 for a 1yr membership and R349/m for a 2yr membership

What do you intend to do about parking? There is a huge shortage of parking in and around the Eikestad Mall already. Any hopes of a new or larger parking garage?
Hi Ilse. The Eikestadt Mall has made provisions for additional parking bays as part of the redevelopment. We anticipate some teething problems when the club initially opens but we will do our best to alleviate these problems as they arise
Do you know if there will be secure lock up for bicycles? I dread parking anywhere near the mall
Will the gym have squash courts?
Unfortunately there is not enough space available for squash courts

Hi Clinton. Bryanston is currently only projected to open in the middle of next year. should that timeframe change, we’ll let you know

I know the parking has been addressed before but I would like to know whether Virgin members will have to pay for parking. The Eikestad Mall parking tariffs are very, VERY expensive. I was informed by a person at Virgin Head Office in the Development Dept. that the fist 2 hours for Vigin members will be free. I would just like to confirm this.
I agree that the Eikestad Mall parking tariffs are crazy! So I hope the first two hours parking will be free for Virgin Active members. The Claremont gym is also in a mall, but Virgin Active members get free parking.

hi there! i am really happy to hear about the gym opening soon! my parents are members at the waterstone village virgin active. i am still under 18 and don’t pay any fees. will it cost anything extra if i want to join stellenbosch virgin active, as i am in the hostal. please let me know as soon as possible.
Cassy if you’d like to do that, the easiest option would be for whichever parent your account is linked to to upgrade to Premier then you can go to any club in Cape Town for free until you turn 18. Then you will need to get your own contract.
Has your facility concluded the vacancy for the availble Biokinetics practice yet? I’m very much interested.
When will you build a “safer” club in Benoni? Going to town after work or early morning just isn’t safe anymore.

Any update regarding the Stellenbosch gym as yet?! When exactly are you opening? If I am a premier member currently, can I down scale and only use Stellenbosch VA as my preferred gym!?
Victor you can. The club will be open on 15 December with all facilities being available early next year (we were offered more space in the centre at the last minute)
You can most definitely downscale – the club will be able to make that change for you.

by the standard free parking at the mall are you reffering to the outside parking across the road or does this include the secure parking area on the basement, 1st and 2nd floors.

It’s opening next weekend the 22nd December. It has taken AGES but we’re finally getting there.
